For the past two months I have been hard at work creating children's textile designs as a guest designer for Believe Creative Studios in the Netherlands.
It has been a hectic time but a very rewarding one for me.
Throughout my design career I have enjoyed many aspects of the different avenues of design. I started out, after graduation from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, as a children's sleepwear designer but my real love has always been art and illustration. When I got a job as a designer for Baby's Home Products I sensed I was onto something. I really wanted to design the textiles that I would use for the products I was designing. I went back to school at night and learned textile design and began creating my own designs for the company I was working for.
I continued to design textiles for children when I left to go out on my own as a freelance designer. At this time I also became involved in designing other products such as dinnerware, wallpaper, furniture and adult bedding.
Being one of the guest designers at Believe Creative Studios has made me realize that I have a real love for children's textiles. I have thoughly enjoyed creating happy, cute, sometimes a bit weird, characters and telling their stories in my textile designs. I want to thank Rosie Martinez Dekker for selecting me to be one of the guest designers and I want to also thank her for bringing me back to creating what I really love doing, creating happy designs that make adults and children smile.
thanks Rosie
